Cat Drop Borneo
Does the story hang together?
Welcome to SystemsWiki’s Musings exploring how deeper understanding relationships and their implications can enable more effective action.
When you read an article or watch a video that attempts to explain something do you ever wonder if it’s all there or is there something missing? People typically create things based on their personal perspectives dragging along ingrained biases they are seldom aware of. As such, approaching everything from a critical perspective is likely to prove quite beneficial.
The following video about the evolution of endeavors to deal with the mosquitoes in Borneo is relatively entertaining, though does it really make sense?
After watching the video a couple of times I decided to build a set of relationships based on what the video presented to see if it held up. Here’s my story about the story.
What perspectives do you have that might improve the understanding?

And I will add this is hardly the only time the WHO set some unfortunate forces in motion. They screwed up the ecosystem and nomadic culture of the Sahel desert by drilling wells ... my other example.
Hi Gene. I have been using this as my premiere example of the dangers of unintended consequences for three decades. I even spoke to a retired RAF Flight Sergeant who confirmed the operation. Got a great response when introducing systems thinking to the senior leadership of DHS during Secretary Chertoff's "reboot." Best powerpoint I ever created ... nothing but images!
